France's national football team dominated Poland with a 3-0 victory in the World Cup group stage, advancing to the round of 16. In the 53rd minute, Michael Olise assisted Bradley Barcola, who fired a shot from 12 meters out to double France's lead. Later, in the 74th minute, Olise again provided an assist, this time to Kylian Mbappé, who scored an unmarked goal from inside the penalty area to make it 3-0. With that goal, Mbappé became the tournament's leading scorer. France's opponent in the round of 16 will be Paraguay, who earlier surprised Germany by defeating them.

This is the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, hosted across Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The teams are divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, advanced to the knockout stage. The semifinals are scheduled for July 14 and 15, the third-place match on July 18, and the final on July 19. The previous World Cup, held in Qatar in 2022, was won by Argentina, who defeated France in a penalty shootout.
