France sets new heat record; expert warns future will see this as a cool period
France recorded a new heat record on Wednesday as scorching temperatures grip Western Europe. Climate expert Jean-Pascal van Ypersele says that in the coming years, this episode will be remembered as a cool period.

France broke yet another heat record on Wednesday as sweltering temperatures continue to affect Western Europe. The mercury has reached unprecedented levels, prompting residents to seek relief and raising concerns about climate change.
In an interview with FRANCE 24, Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Professor of Climatology and Environmental Sciences and former Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), stated that "unfortunately in the coming years people will remember this episode as a cool period". He emphasized that this is not an isolated event but part of a long-term trend linked to global climate change.
The expert warned that even these records will be surpassed in the coming decades if significant measures are not taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. France's meteorological service reported that the current heatwave is one of the strongest ever recorded and is expected to continue in the coming days.
