French presidential candidate criticizes Le Pen's statements on Ukraine
Former French Prime Minister and presidential candidate Gabriel Attal has criticized Marine Le Pen's claim that France can no longer afford to financially support Ukraine, saying Russia is waiting for her to win the election.
Former French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, a presidential candidate for the Renaissance party, criticized recent statements by Marine Le Pen, the informal leader of the far-right National Rally party, regarding the war in Ukraine. He made the comments on social media platform X.
Attal's criticism was prompted by Le Pen's recent statement that France can no longer provide financial support to Ukraine due to its difficult economic situation. The former prime minister accused the far-right leader of sacrificing the security of France and Europe.
"Madame Le Pen's program is clear: sacrifice our security and hand Ukraine and Europe to Putin on a silver platter," Attal wrote.
The Renaissance candidate emphasized that Ukraine serves as a shield for France, while Russia is waiting for Le Pen's victory in the election. "Ukraine is our shield. To abandon it is to paint a target on ourselves. Russia is only waiting for that. Russia is waiting for exactly you," Attal stated.
Le Pen had previously said that France can no longer provide Ukraine with the same level of assistance as before, citing the country's deteriorating financial situation.
Ahead of France's 2027 presidential election, Marine Le Pen currently leads opinion polls by a significant margin over her competitors.
On September 19, two leading figures of the far-right National Rally party — Marine Le Pen, the party's main presidential candidate, and Jordan Bardella — took a firm stance on Moscow in a joint statement.
