A scorching heatwave in France has forced the cancellation of the French wheelchair basketball championship finals. The team "Puy-en-Velay," which finished the regular season in first place, announced that they searched for a venue in the Paris region equipped with air conditioning but could not find a suitable court. It remains unclear whether the team will be awarded the championship title.
Last season, the champions were "Elan Chalon"/"Dijon," featuring Latvian player Gabranov, who defeated "Puy-en-Velay" represented by Beginskis in the final. This season, both Latvians play on the same team.
The heatwave is affecting Western Europe. In northeastern France, a transformer failure has left tens of thousands of households without electricity since Tuesday evening.
