France's bid for World Cup glory came to a crashing halt on Tuesday as they were comprehensively outplayed by Spain in a 2-0 semi-final defeat. The French team, widely tipped as tournament favorites, failed to live up to expectations and were second best throughout the match. Coach Didier Deschamps admitted his side were technically inferior and took responsibility for the loss.

France struggled to create chances, with star forward Kylian Mbappé unable to produce his trademark moments of brilliance. Michael Olise, expected to be the creative force, lost possession 20 times and failed to complete a single dribble. Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, and substitute Désiré Doué also failed to make an impact, leaving France's attack looking toothless.

In midfield, Adrien Rabiot picked up an early yellow card that limited his aggression, while Aurélien Tchouaméni, lacking match fitness after a hamstring injury, was overrun by Spain's midfield. The defense was exposed and punished for two mistakes: a penalty converted by Mikel Oyarzabal and a goal from Pedro Porro. After the final whistle, several French players dropped to their knees in despair. France's much-vaunted team spirit and unity were nowhere to be seen as they exited the tournament.
