Freibergs assists in Czech hockey Extraliga, but Olomouc lose in overtime
Latvian hockey defenceman Ralfs Freibergs set up the equalising goal in a Czech Extraliga game, but his club Olomouc lost 2-1 in overtime to Sparta Prague. Sparta scored the winner on a power play after Freibergs was given a penalty.

Latvian ice hockey defenceman Ralfs Freibergs registered an assist on Saturday in a Czech Extraliga game, the top-tier hockey league in the Czech Republic, but his club Olomouc lost 2-1 in overtime away to Sparta Prague. Because the game was level after regulation time, Olomouc still left with a point.
The decisive moment in overtime
Freibergs helped his team draw level by setting up Jakub Kos, who equalised 128 seconds before the end of regulation. In overtime, however, the Latvian defenceman picked up a two-minute penalty, and Sparta scored the winning goal on the power play.
Freibergs spent 22 minutes and eight seconds on the ice and had one shot on goal. Sparta were without another Latvian player, Mārtiņš Dzierkals, who missed the game through injury.
Latvians in the Extraliga table
Among the clubs with Latvian players, the highest in the standings is Energie of Karlovy Vary, for which Roberts Mamčics and Harijs Egle play. The team has 25 points from 13 games and sits third in the 14-team league.
Last season, Dynamo Pardubice won the Czech Extraliga title.
