Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) plans to lower the minimum passing scores on physical fitness tests for contract military service candidates and applicants to its educational institutions, according to a draft order first reported by Verstka, an independent Russian news outlet.

The current fitness standards have been in effect since 2016. Under the proposed changes, required scores would drop significantly — particularly for older candidates. Men aged 50 and older would need to score only 60 points across three physical exercises measuring strength, speed, and endurance. Men aged 45 to 49 would need 70 points. The current minimum is 140 points.

The draft document offers no explanation for the revision.
