Stradiņš Hospital emergency medicine centre chief Furmanis steps down
Roberts Furmanis has stepped down as head of the Emergency Medicine Centre at Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital; the hospital says it has not yet received an official resignation request.
Roberts Furmanis, the head of the Emergency Medicine Centre at Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, is leaving his post. He has informed the hospital board of his decision. At present, Furmanis is on a sick leave certificate and has indicated he will continue working at the hospital.
Furmanis did not elaborate on the reasons for his departure, suggesting that further questions should be directed to the hospital management. Hospital representative Gunda Jauntēva told LETA that no official resignation application has been received. She said Furmanis is currently absent and that all employment-related matters will be addressed after his return. Until then, the hospital cannot comment on unofficial information.
Furmanis had led the centre since August 2023. Previously, he headed the Zemgale regional centre of the Emergency Medical Service and served as vice-president of the Latvian Medical Association. He has worked in medicine for more than 20 years.
In 2014, Furmanis was among five medical professionals accused of beating a man during a work colleagues' event. A court of first instance acquitted all defendants, and the Zemgale Regional Court upheld that ruling.
