Two players sent off in same match for pulling opponent's dreadlocks
Two players were shown red cards in a Concacaf Nations League match between Antigua and Barbuda and Anguilla after separately pulling an opponent's long dreadlocks. Anguilla lost the match 5-0.
An unusual double dismissal took place during a Concacaf Nations League fixture between Antigua and Barbuda and Anguilla at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, with two players sent off for the same offence — pulling a rival's dreadlocks.
Anguilla forward Aedan Scipio, whose dreadlocks reach down to his ankles, came on as a substitute in the 69th minute with his side already trailing 5-0. His hair is so long that he wears a band around his waist to keep it secured to his body.
Just three minutes after entering the pitch, Scipio was involved in an incident that saw opponent Keon Greene shown a straight red card for tugging his dreadlocks. The hair-pulling was not over, however: in stoppage time, Antigua and Barbuda were reduced to nine men after Shalon Knight pulled Scipio's dreadlocks from behind, taking him off his feet and earning a second red card for the home side.
Anguilla, ranked 210th in the world by Fifa, lost the match 5-0. Only San Marino sits below them in the global rankings.
