Football: Kuressaare beats Harju 3:2 for the third time this season

Round 22 of the Estonian football championship began on Friday, August 7. Hosts Kuressaare secured a late win over visitors Harju from Laagri, taking the match 3:2.

Taavi Jurisoo put Kuressaare ahead during first-half stoppage time. However, by the 70th minute Harju had turned the game around to lead 2:1, with substitutes Markus Keza and Ander-Joosep Kose scoring for the visitors.

The islanders still denied their guests even a point. In the 90th minute, Andero Kivi converted a penalty awarded for a handball in the box. Then, in second-half stoppage time, Johann Vahermägi scored the winning goal.

All three meetings between these two clubs this season have ended 3:2 in Kuressaare's favor — the islanders had previously beaten their rivals away in June and at home in April.

With the win, Kuressaare ended a six-match winless streak and now has 21 points, sitting in ninth place. Harju is one spot higher with 25 points. Kuressaare's gap over bottom-placed club Narva Trans is now five points.

On Saturday, Trans will host Nomme Kalju, while on Sunday Tallinn's Levadia will play Nomme United at home. Round 22 matches involving European-cup participants Paide and Flora have been postponed.
