Over 5,200 Ticketless Passengers Fined in Latvian Trains in Past Year
In the last year, more than 5,200 passengers were fined for traveling without a ticket on Latvian trains, with total fines amounting to 140,000 euros. The national rail operator Pasažieru vilciens has taken over ticket control from an external service.
According to data from Pasažieru vilciens, over 5,200 ticketless passengers were fined on passenger trains in Latvia during the past year. The total amount of fines issued reached 140,000 euros.
For a year now, the company has been conducting ticket inspections on its own, having abandoned an external service. During this period, checks were carried out on almost 10,000 Vivi train trips, meaning that ticketless passengers were caught on every second train or even more frequently, as reported by Latvian Radio.
