Gailums meets European Championship standard with 83.09m throw

Latvian javelin thrower Rolands Štrobinders-Gailums achieved 83.09 meters at a World Athletics Bronze level competition, surpassing the European Championship qualifying standard by nine centimeters and finishing second.

At a World Athletics Bronze level meet, Latvian javelin thrower Rolands Štrobinders-Gailums threw 83.09 meters, meeting the European Championship qualifying standard of 83.00 meters and securing second place. This is his fifth longest throw in his career.

Gailums achieved this result on his fifth attempt. His first two throws were 70.41 meters and 76.60 meters, the next two were invalid, and he did not take his final attempt.

The victory went to local competitor Edis Matusevičus with a throw of 83.65 meters. Third place was taken by Krišjānis Suntažs with 77.35 meters, which is his third best career result and his longest throw since 2019.

Another Latvian, Mārtiņš Kaudze, finished sixth with a throw of 71.66 meters in a field of seven competitors.
