Galante: Music is an art that can halt wars
Opera singer Inese Galante says music has the power to ease the impact of wars and give people hope, while calling for greater support of talented artists.
World-renowned opera singer Inese Galante, who chairs the selection committee of the international "Baltic Awards," shared her reflections on the role of music and the artist's lifestyle in an interview on TV24's program "Nedēļa. Post Scriptum."
Galante said music is one of the few art forms capable of momentarily halting wars, giving people hope and strength. She noted that she has never paid attention to which country the singers she works with come from.
Annual event in Dzintari
Every summer, the opera singer gathers stage stars at the Dzintari Concert Hall, bringing together performers from Latvia and abroad while introducing audiences to new talent.
On the artist's way of life
Galante explained that being a singer does not allow for a fixed work schedule — it is a lifestyle that demands dedication at any hour. In her words, an artist becomes, in a sense, a "slave" to their own talent, though she said this holds true for all artists.
She also stressed that talented individuals need special support and care, while those with less talent tend to manage on their own, as they possess great confidence in their abilities. Galante said she tries to help each of the singers she works with.
