Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026: what to expect from the trailer showcase
Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live returns Tuesday with teased looks at several major upcoming games, while CD Projekt Red revealed The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release.
Gamescom's annual Opening Night Live show, hosted by Geoff Keighley, kicks off Tuesday at 2PM ET, preceded by a 30-minute preshow. The two-hour broadcast is expected to include new looks at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, The Witcher 3's upcoming Songs of the Past expansion, Gears of War: E-Day, and a Game of Thrones strategy title, based on teasers already shared on social media.
The show arrives just before an unusually packed stretch for the games industry. Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19th, and most other publishers appear to be avoiding that release window, meaning several major titles are expected to launch in the coming weeks — some of which could also get airtime during Opening Night Live. GTA VI itself is unlikely to appear at the show, since it has its own reveal event scheduled for Thursday.
Cloud gaming and hardware updates
Ahead of the event, Nvidia announced that its GeForce Now cloud gaming service will add official support for Valve's Steam Controller and Steam Machine later this year, letting players use the gamepad on Steam Deck or Steam Machine through the GeForce Now app. Support for Windows and macOS users is coming at a later date. Nvidia is also rolling out new DLSS 4.5 controls covering Super Resolution, Dynamic Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction, with Ray Reconstruction entering early access for RTX graphics cards. A previously announced single sign-on feature for GOG is now live, GeForce Now is expanding to more Amazon Fire TV Stick devices later this year with subscriptions purchasable through Amazon, and the service became available on Firefox last week.
The Witcher's road ahead
CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski said in a video message that the studio is aiming to release The Witcher 4 sometime in 2028. Before that, the company plans to release Songs of the Past, an expansion for The Witcher 3, in 2027 — and that expansion is also expected to feature during this week's Opening Night Live broadcast.
