Almost 400 Ukrainian Drones Attack Moscow and Moscow Region

Russian authorities reported a massive Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow and the Moscow region overnight on July 28. Over 350 drones were shot down over the capital and its surroundings, but the exact number of drones used in the attack is unknown.

Scale of Attack

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that more than 390 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were directed at Moscow and the region. According to him, most were shot down "on the far approaches," while 81 drones were destroyed near the capital. Russia's Defense Ministry reported that 356 drones were shot down overnight over Russian regions, occupied Crimea, and the Sea of Azov.

Damage in Chekhov and Elsewhere

Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov confirmed that a drone struck an apartment building on Zemskaya Street in Chekhov. Chekhov Mayor Mikhail Sobakin said no one was injured, but two apartments were damaged. Another downed drone sparked a tire fire at the Chekhov Regeneration Plant, a facility that recycles worn automobile tires.

In the village of Vaulovo, a private house caught fire in the "Dubrava" dacha community, and a dacha house was damaged in the "Romashkino" community in the village of Dubna. No injuries were reported.

Fire at Warehouse in Podolsk

Independent Telegram channel Astra reported, citing witness photos and video, that a warehouse belonging to logistics company 3PL caught fire in the village of Koledino in Podolsk after the attack. A nearby Wildberries warehouse is operating as normal. According to its website, 3PL offers custody storage services and leases warehouse space, with partners including grocery chains Auchan, Pyaterochka, Magnit, Lenta, and Perekrestok, as well as retailers Familia, Fixprice, and Detsky Mir. A warehouse pictured on 3PL’s website closely resembles the building where witness footage shows the fire broke out.

Ongoing Campaign

Since July 18, Ukrainian drones have been targeting logistics centers and warehouses belonging to Wildberries, striking facilities in the Moscow region, Tambov region, Krasnodar, Stavropol Krai, Leningrad region, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, and occupied Crimea. Ukrainian authorities have stated that the strikes are aimed at Wildberries’ warehouses because they store drone components.
