Flavour festivities, basketball and Father's Day – what's on in Ogre County this weekend

Ogre County has a packed schedule of events for the whole family this weekend.

On September 11 at 19:00, the Ķegums People's House hosts a stand-up comedy show, "Smaids" ("Smile"), by Maksims Trivaškevičs. Admission costs 5 euros.

Saturday, September 12

From 10:00, the Creative Space at the Ogre County Culture Centre holds a free knitting session focused on ideas for Christmas gifts and decorations, led by Santa Grinberga.

Starting at 10:00 in the Rembate parish centre square, the Rembate parish festival features a market, emergency service vehicle displays, creative workshops, inflatable attractions and a vehicle exhibition. The celebration closes with a concert by Atis Ieviņš and "The Rock Brothers".

At the Andrejs Pumpurs Museum in Lielvārde, a European Heritage Days event runs all day from 12:00, offering a medieval atmosphere, knight-themed activities, lectures and tours.

At the "Ogre" sports arena, the free Ogre Basketball Festival begins at 18:00. Its highlight will be honouring long-time BK "Ogre" captain Kristaps Dārgais after nine seasons with the club, as his team "KD21 & draugi" faces the new BK "Ogre" lineup led by head coach Artūrs Visockis-Rubenis.

On September 12–13, the sixth annual Home Café Days will see 25 home cafés across the county serving special autumn dishes, ranging from traditional Latvian family recipes to dishes inspired by other cuisines.

Sunday, September 13

Near the shopping centre in Lēdmane, a Father's Day event starts at 9:00 with an autumn market and team activities, followed at 15:00 by the Independent Theatre production "Viss par vīriešiem" ("All About Men", 16+; tickets 5 euros, 3 euros for pensioners and people with disabilities).

At the Energy Museum in Ķegums, a free Father's Day event from 12:00 tells the story of the Ķegums hydroelectric plant and includes talks about electric vehicles.
