On August 27, residents of Gaujiena Vija and Jānis Ciguži celebrated a milestone anniversary — their diamond wedding, marking 60 years of marriage. Over six decades together, the couple experienced both joyful moments and difficult trials, but by their own account, their bond was consistently held together by love, trust and mutual understanding.
Meeting in Jelgava
Vija and Jānis first met in their youth, while both were studying in Jelgava. Vija comes from the Gaujiena area, while Jānis is originally from the Limbaži region. After they got to know each other, Vija, as she recalls with a smile, persuaded her future husband to move to the Gaujiena area.
Life in Gaujiena
Following their wedding, the family settled in Gaujiena, in Vija's ancestral family home, where they have lived ever since. Their sixty years together reflect a strong and lasting bond, built on the couple's ability to face life's challenges side by side while preserving mutual respect and closeness.
