Geely launches powerful hybrid SUV that can also swim
Chinese automaker Geely has started selling the new Galaxy Cruiser 700 plug-in hybrid SUV, whose top version produces 1,129 horsepower and can travel through water. The model drew over 43,000 pre-orders within its first hour of sales.
Chinese carmaker Geely has released a new model, the Galaxy Cruiser 700, a plug-in hybrid SUV that pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors. In its top configuration, combined output reaches 1,129 horsepower, while the base version with a 1.5-liter engine delivers 163 horsepower.
The vehicle measures 5.09 meters in length, and its styling echoes off-road-focused models such as the Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Rover Defender, featuring boxy bodywork and a rugged character. Inside, it offers a large infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, and a substantial center console with dedicated off-road control switches.
One standout feature is the vehicle's ability to move sideways using a "Crab-Walk" mode, one of 17 available driving modes, which shrinks the turning circle to just 3.36 meters despite the SUV's length. A special "Battleship" trim adds two rear propellers, letting the vehicle cross water at over 6 km/h in emergency situations and drift for up to two hours. This version also includes sonar for detecting underwater obstacles and an independent oxygen supply system.
In China, the base trim starts at roughly 26,000 euros, while the top version starts around 35,000 euros — undercutting the Volkswagen Tiguan, which starts near 39,385 euros there. Geely reported receiving more than 43,000 pre-orders within the first hour of sales.
While Geely has a substantial presence in Europe, it remains unclear whether the Galaxy Cruiser 700 will be offered on European or Latvian markets.
