Genesis is set to present its newest and most luxurious electric crossover, the GV90, later this month. The model will stand out thanks to an unusual technical feature — rear doors that open in the opposite direction to conventional doors, a mechanism previously seen on rare luxury vehicles such as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Ferrari Purosangue.

Design based on a concept car

The GV90's exterior design is based on the Neolun concept car unveiled in 2024, and the manufacturer says the production version will retain most of the concept's design elements. Genesis representatives note that the GV90 will be the only model in its segment featuring this type of door, underlining its premium positioning.

Technical specifications

The new crossover will be built on Genesis's new eM electric vehicle platform and will come equipped with two electric motors along with a battery of roughly 110 kWh. Hybrid versions of the GV90 are planned for the future, though conventional combustion-engine variants are not currently on the roadmap.

Competing in the luxury segment

The GV90 will become Genesis's flagship model and will compete against luxury electric SUVs such as the BMW iX7, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Cadillac Escalade IQ, as well as an increasing number of premium electric SUVs entering the market from Chinese manufacturers.
