Geographer Gunta Kalvāne urges people to explore local nature: the nearest meadow or forest edge is the best choice
Geographer Gunta Kalvāne encourages people to focus on nearby nature rather than exotic destinations.

In the Latvian Radio program 'Zināmais nezināmajā' (The Known in the Unknown), geographer Gunta Kalvāne emphasized that people often know more about the Amazon rainforest than their nearest forest, and more about lions in the savanna than about hares and foxes in local meadows. She believes the most important thing is simply to be in nature and experience it. Kalvāne recommends visiting the nearest forest, meadow, riverbank, or seaside instead of seeking distant destinations to enjoy nature. According to her, this approach allows people to better understand their local environment and appreciate its richness. The geographer invites everyone to go outside and take the opportunity to discover the diversity of Latvian nature right next to their homes.
