Rescuers search forests for lost people in Latgale and Kurzeme
The State Fire and Rescue Service helped two people who got lost in forests yesterday, in the Tukums and Augšdaugava municipalities. Both were found safely.

Yesterday the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) responded twice to help people who had lost their way in forests. The first call came around 5 p.m. from the Engure parish in Tukums municipality, while the second arrived shortly before midnight from the Vabole parish in Augšdaugava municipality, in the Latgale region.
To search the wooded areas, rescuers used quad bikes to cover hard-to-reach terrain and sounded the sirens of a water tanker truck to help the lost individuals orient themselves toward the rescue team's location. In both cases, the people were found successfully.
Safety advice for forest trips
VUGD is urging caution for anyone heading into the forest to pick mushrooms or berries. Before setting out, people should tell relatives where they plan to go and roughly when they expect to return, and should bring a fully charged mobile phone.
If someone realizes they have become lost, the service advises staying calm and avoiding aimless wandering. In that situation, they should call the unified emergency number 112 and provide as precise information as possible about their location or visible landmarks nearby.
