Following a Russian strike last Friday on the city of Sloviansk in Ukraine, the building housing Latvia's honorary consulate was completely destroyed. The Honorary Consul, Alexander Pavenko, who survived the attack, expressed resilience and gratitude for the support coming from Latvia.

In an interview with Latvian Television, Pavenko stated: "We are not alone, we are not abandoned; there are good people, our friends in Latvia, who remember us and sympathize with us." He emphasized that despite the loss, hope is not lost, and the solidarity from Latvian society is strongly felt.

The attack took place amid ongoing hostilities in eastern Ukraine. Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to issue an official statement on the incident, which highlights the vulnerability of diplomatic missions in conflict zones.
