As the back-to-school season approaches, Google is introducing a dedicated student hub within its Gemini AI platform. The hub serves as a central place for study-related tasks, letting students collect research material in a study notebook, generate flashcards, and take practice quizzes.

The study notebooks themselves are also being enhanced, gaining support for graphs and images. Additionally, the system can read a student's syllabus and automatically add exam dates and other deadlines directly to their Google Calendar.

Deep Research and Lens updates

Google is bringing its Deep Research capability to Gemini Live, allowing users to request complex research reports and then discuss the findings conversationally. If generating a report takes some time, users can close the chat and lock their phone — Gemini will notify them once the report is ready.

In the coming weeks, Google will also roll out a new feature for Lens within its mobile app that lets users photograph a study guide or worksheet to receive explanations, help understanding difficult concepts, or corrective coaching if they've made a mistake.

Free access for US students

Eligible students in the United States can claim a full year of Google AI Pro at no cost, which includes 5TB of storage, Google Health Premium, higher Gemini usage limits, and access to Gemini across various Google apps. Students outside the US will instead have access to the more limited Google AI Plus subscription, offering 400GB of storage and lower Gemini usage limits.
