Google has finally released its long-awaited Google Home speaker, teased last fall. The device is now available for pre-order at $100, with general sales starting June 25. While it serves a similar role to the Nest Audio, the new model comes with several upgrades.

One key improvement is 360-degree audio, delivering clear sound in all directions in a more compact design. It can also be paired with Google's TV Streamer for stereo sound during movies and shows. The exterior is covered in a 3D knit fabric made from recycled materials, available in four colors: hazel, porcelain, jade, and berry. LED indicators are now located at the base instead of behind the mesh, providing dynamic feedback.

Another major change is that Gemini becomes the primary digital assistant, replacing the classic Google Assistant. This enables more complex multi-step commands, such as dimming lights, playing music, and setting a timer with a single request. Gemini also offers better contextual understanding and a longer short-term memory, reducing the need to repeatedly say “Hey Google” to trigger the speaker.

To unlock full potential, users need a Google Home Premium subscription. The $10/month standard plan includes Gemini Live for more natural conversations and enhanced automation. The $20/month premium tier adds AI-powered Home Brief, which summarizes events from security cameras, video doorbells, and more, plus AI-based alerts and home video history. Existing Google AI Pro subscribers ($20/month) already receive Google Home Premium Standard as part of their plan.
