Google to Introduce Transparency Tools for AI-Generated Ads
Google's My Ad Center will soon feature a 'How this ad was made' section, automatically disclosing ads created with Google's AI tools and offering optional disclosure for third-party AI tools.

Google has announced new transparency measures regarding the use of generative AI in advertisements. The company's My Ad Center panel now includes a section called 'How this ad was made,' which will inform users if AI was used in the creation of an ad.
This information will be accessible globally across Google's Search, YouTube, and Discover platforms. If an ad is created or edited using Google's own extensive AI tools, the disclosure will be added automatically. For ads created with third-party AI tools, My Ad Center will provide brands with a control to voluntarily indicate that generative AI was used. However, Google's language suggests this is an opt-in feature rather than a mandatory requirement.
In some regions, depending on local regulations, enabling this toggle may result in a label about AI use appearing on the ad. Google emphasizes that clarity about manipulated media is critical for advertisements, ensuring prospective buyers have an accurate picture of what they are purchasing.
"We want to help people better understand the ads they see, while providing advertisers with straightforward tools to navigate evolving industry standards," according to Google's blog post announcing the addition.
