Google launches Pokémon Sleep special-edition Fitbit Air

Google has introduced a new special edition of its screenless wearable, the Fitbit Air, themed around the mobile game Pokémon Sleep. The band, called "Sleepy Blue," features an image of a sleeping Pikachu, with an overall color scheme echoing the classic blue and gold seen on Pokémon trading cards.

The special-edition Fitbit Air is available for preorder now at $129, with shipping starting September 15th. The standard version without the special-edition band costs $99.

Timed with an anniversary

The release coincides with Pokémon's 30th anniversary celebrations this year. A special-edition collection of Pokémon trading cards is also set to launch the same week the Fitbit begins shipping.

Ties to the game

The Fitbit Air isn't the first wearable compatible with Pokémon Sleep — the sleep-tracking app already supports dozens of devices from manufacturers including Apple, Google, Garmin, and Samsung. The game allows players to collect Pokémon around a virtual campsite while tracking their sleep data. With the Pokémon edition Fitbit Air, users can do this while wearing a Pikachu design on their wrist and syncing data with Google Health, though the game can also be played without any wearable device at all.

This marks the second special edition of the Fitbit Air, following an earlier release this year themed around basketball player Stephen Curry.
