Google unveils special-edition Fitbit Air with Pokémon Sleep support
Google has launched a special-edition Fitbit Air that connects with the Pokémon Sleep game, marking Pokémon's 30th anniversary. The device tracks daytime activity and overnight sleep to help drive in-game progress.
Google is giving Pokémon fans another reason to wear a Fitbit. On Thursday, the company announced a special-edition Fitbit Air designed to work with Pokémon Sleep, merging Fitbit's fitness and health tracking with the sleep-focused mobile game. The release lands during Pokémon's 30th anniversary year.
Pokémon Sleep launched back in 2023, transforming the simple act of going to bed into part of a game. Players earn in-game rewards for falling asleep before a set bedtime, while the duration and quality of their sleep shapes their progress. The game begins with a large, drowsy Snorlax, and the more a player sleeps, the more "Drowsy Power" builds up, attracting additional Pokémon to discover.
The new Fitbit Air adds an extra dimension to this experience. It can sync with both the Google Health app and Pokémon Sleep, letting users monitor daytime metrics such as movement, heart rate, and cardio load, then switch to tracking sleep duration and quality overnight.
This isn't the first wearable compatible with Pokémon Sleep — the app already works with Apple Watch, other Fitbit models, Galaxy Watch, and Google Pixel Watch, and can also be used without any wearable at all. Still, for Pokémon's 30th anniversary, the tie-in stands out as a clever way to turn a nightly routine into another form of engagement with the franchise, while giving Google a playful angle on wearable health tracking.
Google recently partnered with basketball player Stephen Curry on a separate special-edition Pixel Watch, priced at $579 and featuring an exclusive workout-focused design.
The Pokémon-themed Fitbit Air is available for preorder now at $129, with shipping starting September 15. It will be sold through the Google Store and Target, both online and in physical stores. The standard version of the Fitbit Air costs $99. Google first introduced the new Fitbit Air lineup in May, highlighting a slimmer design, improved fitness and health tracking, and an AI-powered coach that offers personalized guidance based on a user's activity, sleep, and overall wellness data.
