Google reshapes AI agent CC into a household management tool
Google has repositioned its AI agent CC from a general productivity tool into an assistant that helps families coordinate schedules and manage kid-related tasks. The updated version is currently limited to a subset of U.S. users.
Google is testing an updated version of its AI agent CC, now focused on helping families coordinate household life rather than serving as a general productivity assistant. The tool previously worked by pulling information from email, calendar, and the web to deliver a short "Your Day Ahead" briefing each morning. In May, this feature also arrived in the Gemini app under the name "Daily Brief."
Based on user feedback, Google found that people mainly wanted to use CC for household management — tracking kids' school schedules, sports practices, bills, and meal planning. As a result, the company redesigned the agent around family needs.
How it works
CC now gets its own Google account so it can collaborate with family members while keeping separate permissions for each person's shared data. Each family member chooses what to share with the agent, such as emails about school events, doctor appointments, or birthday invitations. This information can be forwarded to CC's email address or set up for automatic sharing from specific senders, like schools or sports clubs.
The system currently supports up to six family members. CC tracks important dates and to-dos, automatically adding them to a shared calendar or task list — for instance, when an orthodontist confirms an appointment or a school announces a teacher workday.
CC can also handle specific tasks on a family's behalf, including filling out permission slips, creating school supply shopping lists, planning weekly meals, and calculating drive times between activities. It will ask for missing details when needed and update its shared memory over time.
The experiment is currently limited to U.S. users with a personal Gmail account who are 18 or older, meaning teens cannot use the service through school-issued email accounts. Existing CC users will receive upgrade invitations in the coming days, while new users can join a waitlist.
