Google has announced that Venmo is now available as a payment option on Google Play, allowing users to pay for games, apps, add-ons and other digital content through the service.

According to the company, users will be able to pay using either their Venmo wallet balance or other payment methods linked to their Venmo account, such as bank accounts or cards. The option also extends to subscription payments and tipping creators within content-based apps. To set it up, users need to go to the payment methods section within their account settings and link a Venmo account.

Joining an existing lineup

Venmo is not the first alternative payment method offered on Google Play. The platform already supports PayPal and Cash App, along with cards from American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and JCB in the United States. Outside the U.S., Google has also tested letting users pay for digital purchases with cash at nearby stores.

Growing app spending

The addition comes as global spending on apps and games continues to climb. Data from analytics firm Sensor Tower shows that combined user spending on in-app purchases across iOS and the Play Store exceeded $167 billion in 2025, a 10.6% increase compared to the previous year.
