Google Play removes Russian apps VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, and Max
Google Play has removed Russian social media apps VKontakte and Odnoklassniki, along with the messaging app Max, citing new EU sanctions.

Google Play Removal
Google Play has blocked access to several Russian-developed applications, including the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki and the messaging platform Max. The removal, which took place on July 16, is directly linked to recent European Union sanctions, according to a statement from VKontakte.
The sanctions target VKontakte and its subsidiary Communications Platform, the investment company behind Max. The EU alleges that Max was created under the supervision of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and includes surveillance capabilities.
Previous Apple Actions
In late June, Apple's App Store took similar steps, removing apps for Odnoklassniki, Mail.ru, and several VKontakte services, including VK Music, VK Messenger, VK Video, and VK Dating. At the time, VKontakte complained that the apps were removed "without prior notice" and called Apple's decision "unjustified and unacceptable." However, the company did not make similar complaints regarding Google's latest move.
Google has not yet publicly commented on the removals, but the action is seen as part of broader efforts to comply with international sanctions against Russian technology companies.
