Google's free Freeplay streaming service adds on-demand shows and movies
Google has expanded its free, ad-supported Freeplay streaming service to let users choose from more than 10,000 shows and movies on demand, alongside a wider live channel lineup.

Google TV Freeplay, the company's free, ad-supported streaming service, has gained video-on-demand functionality. Previously limited to a lineup of always-on channels, the service now lets users pick from a catalog of more than 10,000 shows and movies to watch at any time.
According to Google's announcement, the update brings titles such as Lady Bird, Seventeen Again, and Hell's Kitchen to the platform.
Expanded live channel lineup
Alongside the on-demand addition, Google has grown its live TV offering to more than 300 channels covering news, sports, reality TV, true crime, and other genres. New additions include World of Love Island, Yahoo! Sports Network, Bloomberg TV Plus, and The Martha Stewart Channel.
A growing free-streaming market
Free and low-cost streaming options are becoming more common as major subscription services continue raising their prices. Google TV Freeplay now competes alongside existing free, ad-supported platforms such as Tubi, The Roku Channel, and Pluto TV. Disney Plus is also reportedly weighing the launch of a free tier of its own.
Google says it intends to keep expanding the Freeplay library throughout the rest of the year.
