Demand for heating pellets in Latvia has risen sharply, already affecting prices even though the official heating season has not yet started. Since last summer, pellet prices in the country have increased by approximately 50%, according to information gathered by Latvian Television.
Availability issues in some areas
In certain cases, buyers are currently unable to purchase pellets immediately, as high demand has temporarily depleted supply in specific locations. This has raised concerns among residents who heat their homes with pellets and are trying to stock up ahead of autumn and winter.
Industry: no real shortage of raw material
Despite the difficulties some buyers face in finding pellets, industry representatives emphasize that this is not a genuine shortage. There is physically enough pellet supply in Latvia — the issue lies more in how quickly rising demand is being met at a given time and place, rather than a lack of raw materials or production capacity.
The roughly 50% price increase since last summer suggests heightened market activity even before the heating season officially begins, possibly driven by consumers seeking to secure fuel early, potentially influenced by experience from previous seasons or expectations of further market changes.
