"I Want to Help Refugees" association urges government to reject IeM migration report

The non-governmental organization "I Want to Help Refugees" (GPB) has publicly objected to an informative report prepared by the Interior Ministry (IeM). The document concerns the implementation of recommendations issued by the Saeima's parliamentary investigation committee on migration issues, which relate to restricting immigration.

The association has directly appealed to the government, calling on it to reject the ministry's prepared document at tomorrow's cabinet meeting. GPB considers the approach outlined in the report unacceptable and has voiced sharp criticism of its content and direction.

The report was drawn up in response to the work of the parliamentary investigation committee established by the Saeima to examine migration matters, which issued a series of recommendations to the ministry. The Interior Ministry's task was to compile information on how these recommendations would be implemented in practice and submit it for government review.

The association "I Want to Help Refugees" positions itself as an organization advocating support for refugees, which is why it views the ministry's proposed immigration-restriction measures critically. Its call on the government to reject the document was made public ahead of tomorrow's planned cabinet meeting, where the matter is set to be discussed.

It is not yet known how the Interior Ministry or other government members will respond to the association's criticism, nor whether or in what form the report will be reviewed or approved at tomorrow's meeting. The issue remains part of a broader ongoing debate over the direction of the country's migration policy.
