Greek authorities have arrested three people suspected of stealing copper gas pipes from a building in the centre of Athens, the country's capital. The theft led to a gas leak, which in turn caused a deadly explosion. The news agency Reuters reported this, citing authorities.
The suspects are two Greek nationals and one citizen of Albania.
Investigation findings
Experts from the crime investigation unit of the fire service concluded that several hours before the blast, the suspects damaged the main natural gas supply infrastructure of the two-storey building by removing copper parts of the pipes.
The suspects are expected to appear before a prosecutor on Friday, 30 October.
Earlier events
The explosion in question took place on 25 September and killed six people. Separately, on 21 October, another explosion rang out in central Athens, injuring two police officers and two passers-by.
