Greece has derailed the European Union's plan to adopt new sanctions against Russia, according to Politico Europe. With Hungary no longer providing cover, EU governments are being forced to own their objections to tougher action against Russia.

The EU failed to strike a Russia sanctions deal after three days of talks. EU foreign ministers failed to sign off on the 21st sanctions round. Wednesday is the last day to lock in an oil price cap. Envoys will reconvene next week in a bid to prevent the price cap on Russian crude from ratcheting higher at the end of July.

Meanwhile, the EU's efforts to curb steel imports are straining relationships with key trading partners that Brussels needs to counter China and the United States.
