Grīva Prison Redundant After Closure; Municipality Only Interested with Extra Funding
Grīva Prison in Daugavpils is set to close by year's end, with inmates relocated to the new Liepāja prison. The Ministry of Justice no longer needs the building, while the local government is unwilling to take it over without additional state funding.

Inmates, including those serving life sentences, are still being held at Grīva Prison in Daugavpils, but the facility is scheduled to close by the end of the year. All prisoners will be transferred to the newly constructed Liepāja prison. After the building is vacated, the Ministry of Justice sees no further use for it. Meanwhile, the Daugavpils city council has stated it will not assume management of the property without extra financial support from the state. As a result, the future of the building remains uncertain.
