Grobiņa Secures Important Victory Over Tukums 2000 in Latvian Top League

In the 22nd round of the Latvian Virslīga, Grobiņa beat Tukums 2000 3-1 (2-0) at home in Liepāja. With this win, Grobiņa leapfrogged Tukums, who were in second-to-last place, moving three points ahead in the table.

Žuzē Martins opened the scoring in the 18th minute after receiving a pass from Devids Dobrecovs and slotting the ball into the net. In the 38th minute, Maksims Sidorovs ran through one-on-one with the goalkeeper after a pass from Dodo and made it 2-0. In the 60th minute, Dobrecovs followed up his own shot and scored from the rebound to give Grobiņa a 3-0 lead. Bogdans Samoilovs pulled one back for Tukums in the 79th minute with a long-range strike.

In other round 22 matches, Riga defeated Jelgava 3-0 on Friday, Daugavpils beat Liepāja 3-1 on Saturday, and RFS drew 1-1 with Auda. The round concludes on Monday with Super Nova facing Ogres United.

After 22 games, RFS leads with 56 points, followed by Riga (55), Auda (40), Liepāja (28), Daugavpils (27), and Jelgava (25). After 21 games, Super Nova has 24 points, Grobiņa 20, Tukums 2000 17, and Ogres United 10.

The 2026 season is played in four rounds, totaling 36 matchdays and 180 games. The final round is scheduled for November 8. Last season's champion was Riga.
