Grobiņa temporarily relocates to Jūrmala and signs experienced Zjuzins
Due to a concert, Grobiņa will play its home match against Ogre United at the Slokas Stadium in Jūrmala. The club has also signed Artūrs Zjuzins, a 62-cap Latvian international.
Tonybet Virslīga side Grobiņa will host Ogre United on Monday at the Slokas Stadium in Jūrmala, after the stadium became available due to a concert by the band Prāta Vētra. Earlier on Thursday, Liepāja will also use the same venue for their UEFA Conference League qualifier against Austria Wien, as their usual home ground was affected by the same event.
Grobiņa first play away to Super Nova at Jāņa Skredeļa Stadium in Riga on Saturday evening. The club, currently eighth in the table, is looking to move up.
Meanwhile, the Latvian Football Federation transfer register shows that Grobiņa have bolstered their squad with 35-year-old central midfielder Artūrs Zjuzins. The veteran is a three-time Latvian champion – with Ventspils in 2007 and RFS in 2021 and 2023. Zjuzins earned 62 caps for Latvia (42 starts), scoring nine goals. His last national team appearance came in March 2024 under newly appointed head coach Paolo Nicolato.
Zjuzins has played abroad in Slovakia, Russia, and briefly in the Cypriot second division. In 2024, he played for Liepāja and later Daugavpils. Early this year, he moved to Norwegian fifth-tier club Nybergsund, but has now returned to Latvia to join Grobiņa.
Grobiņa have 20 points from 22 matches, sitting four points behind Super Nova and three ahead of Tukums 2000. The next Derby of Kurzeme against Liepāja is scheduled for August 21.
Notably, the artificial pitch at Kauguri Secondary School in Jūrmala hosted the first Riga-RFS derby back in 2016.
