Latvian band "Idille" releases 17-minute music video short film

Latvian band "Idille" has released a new and unusually long music video for their song "Vienu dienu / Mūžīga mīlestība" ("One Day / Eternal Love"). The video runs 17 minutes and is structured as a short film.

The song's origins date back two years, to when band member Kristiāns Kosītis first played its opening chords. That early creative burst produced a 22-minute composition featuring a long guitar solo, which the band describes as a piece blending feelings of love with a sense of the world ending.

Vocalist steps into acting for the first time

Direction of the video was entrusted to Artūrs Zepa. The team initially looked for professional actors for the introductory segment that opens the video, but ultimately the band's own vocalist, Gunārs Gaumigs, took on the lead role. Drawing on his own relationship experiences, Gaumigs worked with the director and lead actress, Marta Kātiņa, to develop the dialogue for the script.

Although this was Gaumigs' first acting experience, intensive rehearsals and preparation produced a compelling opening sequence. He said understanding and believing in the portrayed emotions was the most challenging part for him, drawing a parallel to performing music on stage, where musicians must likewise embody the feelings being sung or played.

Filming in Sigulda and Riga

The shoot took place over three days. Two days of filming took place at a house in the Sigulda valley, while a third day was dedicated to capturing the band's musical performance at the "Dzirnas" dance school together with cinematographer Makars.
