GTA VI will require different methods to steal each car
Rockstar Games' upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI will make car theft more complex, requiring different techniques depending on a vehicle's make and model, according to a new IGN preview.

Rockstar Games is overhauling one of the core mechanics of its Grand Theft Auto series for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI: stealing cars. Co-studio head Rob Nelson told IGN that the process will now depend on the specific make and model of the vehicle a player wants to steal.
No more universal hotwire
In previous entries, players could steal virtually any car by pressing a single button to instantly hotwire it. Nelson said this approach left untapped potential for progression and decision-making. As a result, when players start GTA VI, certain parked cars will be inaccessible until they progress further in the story and acquire specific tools. Carjacking any driver on the road, however, will still remain possible at any time.
Different tools for different vehicles
According to IGN, cars equipped with electronic key fobs may require a key cloner to access, while some vehicles with built-in GPS systems could force players to drive at a certain speed to avoid triggering detection. The game will also include an in-game app that helps players figure out what's needed to steal a particular car and how much it's worth.
Nelson said he hopes these changes will make the vehicles players obtain feel more meaningful, while also making the theft process itself more varied.
Leaks continue alongside official previews
Even as official previews roll out, unauthorized information about the game keeps surfacing. A leaker or group known as "Cyberleek" has continued posting clips from the game ahead of the premiere of Netflix's exclusive trailer, a situation Rockstar described as "heartbreaking." Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, is trying to determine the source of the leaks, but no one has been publicly identified so far.
