Gudļevskis makes 31 saves as Bremerhaven falls to Munich in DEL

Latvian goaltender Kristers Gudļevskis started in net for Bremerhaven's "Fischtown Pinguins" on Friday in a third-round match of Germany's DEL hockey league against Munich's "Red Bulls." Despite making 31 saves, his team lost 1:4.

The game began evenly, with no goals scored in the first period. Munich pulled ahead in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals. Each side added one more goal in the third period, leaving the final score unchanged from that point on.

Gudļevskis faced 35 shots in total, saving 31 of them for an 87.88% save percentage. Despite the loss, the numbers point to a solid individual performance under heavy pressure.

Standings

After three games played, "Fischtown Pinguins" sit on six points, putting them fifth in the 14-team DEL championship. Cologne's "Haie" were last season's German champions, while Gudļevskis' team was eliminated in the quarterfinals during the playoffs.

Notably, Munich's "Red Bulls" squad included Latvian forward Alberts Šmits during the second half of last season, when the Bavarian club went on to lose in the semifinals.
