Haeran Ryu wins first major at Women's PGA Championship
South Korea's Haeran Ryu claimed her first major title with a two-shot victory at the Women's PGA Championship, overcoming a shaky start in the final round.

Haeran Ryu of South Korea secured her first major championship win at the Women's PGA Championship on Sunday, finishing two strokes ahead of the field. The 25-year-old began the final round with a one-shot lead but lost it after three bogeys in the first five holes. She recovered with five birdies to card a two-under 70 and finish at 13 under par. The tournament offered a record $13 million purse for women's golf, with Ryu taking home $1.95 million. "It feels like a dream has come true because I tried a couple times to be a major champion and I didn't get it. Today I did it and I'm so happy right now," Ryu said. Remarkably, she was tied for 70th place after the first round, ten shots off the lead. Canada's Brooke Henderson and the Netherlands' Dewi Weber tied for third at 10 under, with Weber achieving her best major finish. Ryu's compatriot Ina Yoon, who had led by five shots earlier in the tournament, finished second at 11 under. Nelly Korda of the United States, seeking a historic third consecutive major title, ended tied for eighth at six under.
