Moscow Mayor's Telegram Channel Hacked, Flooded with 'Moscow Will Burn' Posts and Links to Ukrainian Military Fundraiser
On the evening of June 21, hacked posts appeared in Sergey Sobyanin's Telegram channel, featuring threatening messages and links to a drone fundraiser for Ukrainian forces. The channel was temporarily taken down.
On the evening of June 21, the Telegram channel of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin was hacked. The channel, titled “Sergey Sobyanin. Personal Blog,” which has nearly 40,000 subscribers, was flooded with posts reading “MOSCOW WILL BURN” and containing links to fundraisers for Ukrainian military drones.
The independent Russian news outlet Mediazona noted that the links led to a drone fundraiser for Ukrainian forces run by the “Spilnota Sternenka” foundation. Sobyanin also has another channel with 358,000 subscribers, which was not affected.
Shortly after the hack, the channel was taken down, though an archived version was preserved on TgStat. By the morning, the mayor’s previous posts had reappeared, with the most recent dated June 17.
Moscow city hall has not commented on the incident.
