Luke Humphries ended a lengthy wait for a major darts trophy by defeating Gerwyn Price 6-4 in the World Grand Prix final held in Leicester, securing his first significant PDC title in 16 months.

The 31-year-old world number two had stood at the top of the sport two years ago, but his dominance has since been overshadowed by the rise of Luke Littler. Humphries had not tasted major success since winning the Premier League in May 2025, and a ranking title had eluded him since his Masters triumph in February of the previous year.

The second seed, appearing in a record fourth consecutive World Grand Prix final, found himself trailing Price 3-0 early in the match. He then responded by winning four sets in a row to seize control of the contest.

Price fought back to level the match, but Humphries broke serve in the deciding leg of the fifth set and went on to win three consecutive legs to be crowned champion.

The title marks Humphries' second World Grand Prix success, following his breakthrough win in 2023 that launched his rise to the world number one ranking. The victory also guarantees he retains his current world number two spot ahead of the Netherlands' Gian van Veen.

For Price, the defeat extends a four-year drought without a major PDC title. He has now lost five consecutive major finals, three of them this year alone.
