Hamilton set to extend Ferrari contract through 2027

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is expected to soon reach an official agreement to extend his contract with Ferrari, remaining with the team at least until the end of 2027. This was reported by Spanish Formula 1 journalist Carlos Miquel on the radio show "El Partidazo de COPE," who said the announcement could come before the upcoming Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Miquel urged listeners to note that Hamilton will definitely stay with his current team, adding that the news would most likely be confirmed right before Monza.

Hamilton's original deal with Scuderia Ferrari was structured on a "two plus one" basis, and the additional season option is now expected to be triggered. Italian outlet Eurosport Italia has also reported that Hamilton will remain with Ferrari through the end of the 2027 season.

Driver satisfied with team's direction

The 41-year-old British driver said at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort that he currently feels in better shape than ever and is pleased with how Ferrari is progressing. He noted that many things within the team have changed recently, including its engineering approach, other internal processes and the car's design, and that overall the team is moving in the right direction. Hamilton stressed that Ferrari has done what he had asked of them, and the results show the approach is working. He recalled having previously called on Ferrari to become more innovative.

On Verstappen's decision to stay at Red Bull

Hamilton also commented on Max Verstappen's recent contract extension with Red Bull through 2030, saying the decision made sense. He said Verstappen has been with a strong team for a long time that keeps achieving success, and it is natural to stay where you feel comfortable — calling it not a bad choice.
