Harry's return to Britain raises hopes of reconciliation with William, but a Diana film could jeopardise it
Britain's Prince Harry is spending more time in the UK, raising hopes of a reconciliation with his brother William. Experts warn that his plan for a documentary about their late mother Diana could deepen the rift.

Prince Harry, a member of the British royal family, and his wife Meghan Markle are again spending more time in Britain after several years in the United States. This has fuelled hope that the long-running conflict with his older brother, the Prince of Wales, William, could be resolved. Experts note, however, that Harry's planned documentary about their late mother, Princess Diana, may complicate the brothers' relationship further.
A chance to rebuild ties
A source close to the royal family told People magazine that Harry's return home is the best opportunity in years to repair the relationship. According to the source, this would never have happened while he was in America. King Charles III, according to a source close to him, also wants to see both sons together again in time. Another source close to the family said Harry's relationship with his father has improved, but there is still no contact with William.
The Diana film
On 31 August 2027 it will be 30 years since Diana's death in Paris. Harry is reportedly considering several projects to honour her memory, including a documentary about her life and legacy, and has already contacted family members and people who knew Diana personally.
Royal commentator Helena Chard called such a move "dropping a grenade at Prince William's feet". She said William has repeatedly turned down offers to take part in films about his mother and is likely to mark the anniversary privately. The Times has also reported that he declined such offers to avoid a new conflict with his brother.
History of the rift
The brothers' relationship deteriorated sharply after Harry and Meghan stepped back from official royal duties in 2020 and moved to the US. The conflict deepened after their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the 2022 Netflix series Harry & Meghan and Harry's 2023 memoir Spare. Several experts say the brothers have not spoken since 2022. Commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes William still feels resentment, while Hilary Fordwich names lost trust as the main obstacle.
There has been speculation that William's wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, could help bring them closer, but other experts have said she does not wish to be drawn into the dispute for now.
The next chance to meet may come in July 2027 in Birmingham, which will host the Invictus Games, the sports event for wounded servicemembers and veterans founded by Harry.
