A Russian strike hit a medical facility in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city in the country's northeast, overnight on 3 November. Forty-six people were injured, and around 200 patients are being evacuated to other medical institutions. The information comes from Oleh Synehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, and Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov.

What happened

Synehubov said the enemy strike in the Nemyshlianskyi district hit a walkway between the buildings of one medical facility. He initially reported 25 injured. Terekhov later updated the figure, saying the number of injured had risen to 46.

The strike damaged the building of one hospital department, the windows of four multi-storey apartment blocks and ten cars. According to Terekhov, more than 1,000 windows were broken in the hospital building and surrounding apartment blocks.

Course of the attack

At around 3 a.m., Terekhov reported that Kharkiv was under a combined attack with ballistic missiles and guided aerial bombs (KABs). Clean-up work is under way, and all emergency services are operating in an enhanced mode.

Background

The attack came a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, citing intelligence data, said on the evening of 2 November that Russia was preparing a new massive strike on Ukraine.
