Hedges honours late coach Hatton ahead of title clash with Brown
Undefeated boxer Hedges paid tribute to his late trainer Hatton before Saturday's fight against Brown for the vacant British and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles, an event upgraded to a much bigger arena due to demand.
Boxer Hedges spoke about the influence of his late trainer Hatton ahead of a major title fight, saying Hatton understood his journey and that the moment was nothing new for him. Hedges remains unbeaten through 12 professional fights and will face Brown, who has won all six of his professional bouts by knockout, for the vacant British and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles on Saturday.
The bout was originally scheduled for the smaller Planet Ice venue in Altrincham but was moved to the much larger Co-op Live arena after ticket demand outstripped the original venue's capacity. Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn said he expects a crowd of around 5,000.
Brown, who represented Team GB at the 2024 Olympics, has built a strong following in his home city and was greeted with chants using his nickname at the weigh-in. While he appeared relaxed during media appearances earlier in the week, he was notably more intense after both fighters weighed in at 90kg (14st 3lb). Brown said boxing has been his calling since age seven, when his father first took him to the gym.
