Hewett and Reid begin bid for sixth US Open wheelchair doubles title
British top seeds Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid made a dominant start to the US Open wheelchair doubles event, reaching the semi-finals. Andy Lapthorne also enjoyed a winning start in the quad doubles.
Britain's Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid launched their bid for a sixth US Open wheelchair doubles title with a dominant opening victory in New York. Playing against France's Stephane Houdet and China's Zhenxu Ji, the British top seeds won 6-3, 6-1 to progress to the semi-finals.
Next up for Hewett and Reid are Japan's Tokito Oda and Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez, the 2025 champions at Flushing Meadows.
Hewett, 28, and Reid, 34, have won 25 Grand Slam doubles titles as a pair. They are due to begin their singles campaigns on Wednesday.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Britain's Andy Lapthorne got his quad wheelchair doubles campaign at the season's final major off to a winning start. He and South African partner Leon Els beat Americans David Wagner and Andrew Bogdanov 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.
However, Greg Slade and Heath Davidson of Australia were left disappointed after losing 0-6, 0-6 to top seeds Niels Vink of the Netherlands and Guy Sasson of Israel. Vink and Sasson have won all three Grand Slam tournaments so far in 2026, and the last six majors in total.
