HP's OmniBook 5 laptop, featuring an OLED display and a Snapdragon chip, is currently discounted 42 percent, dropping its price from $1,300 to $750. The device offers a strong screen and long battery life but has a subpar touchpad.
While laptop prices have generally risen recently, HP is offering an exception with a significant price cut on its OmniBook 5 model. The configuration with a 14-inch OLED display, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage normally retails for $1,300, but is currently available for $750 — a 42 percent discount, or $550 off.
The discounted model is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus chip. Although HP also offers Intel and AMD versions of the same laptop, the Qualcomm variant delivers long battery life comparable to Apple's MacBook devices.
Display and Design
The OLED screen offers a noticeably wider color range than typical IPS displays found at this price point. One downside is its glossy finish, which can cause reflections. The 1920 x 1200 resolution isn't as sharp as newer MacBook models, but the OLED panel's high contrast ratio helps make up for it.
A discounted 16-inch model is also available for $650, though it lacks a touchscreen and appears less sharp since the same resolution is stretched over a larger screen. The 14-inch model measures just half an inch thick, making it one of the slimmer laptops in its class, and it still includes a USB-A port.
Drawbacks
The main drawback is a low-quality touchpad that can be frustrating to use, particularly for click-and-drag actions. For those seeking an even cheaper option, HP also offers the OmniBook 3 with a Snapdragon X chip and even longer battery life, though it is less slim and refined in design.
